Study the Book of Revelation with us in 2010
11 Jan 2010 (Print Version)
Happy New Year to all of you that have found your way to our website.
We wish to announce that we have begun a weekly teaching series in the Book
or Revelation that will be available on our website. This teaching is presented in a
home fellowship setting and contains 25 Lesson in both audio and PDF document
format. Even though the series is weekly, there may be some gaps if our fellowship
takes a break for holidays or other reasons.
The Book of Revelation is a book that has been much neglected in these modern
times. Many churches do not present it because they say it is too controversial, too
scary, or too difficult to understand. To the contrary, we believe that if you follow along
with us you will see this book come alive and make you aware of the approaching
climax of history in the return of our savior Jesus Christ. You will become aware that,
rather than a scary book, it is a book of victory for Christ and His church.
Notice what Paul wrote to Timothy about the end times that I believe we are
experiencing today:
2 Tim 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural
affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those
that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than
lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power
thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into
houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers
lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Probably at no other time in history has Paul’s admonition been so pervasively
true.
If you attend a church that forsakes the teaching of the prophetic books, then you
are ignoring approximately a third of the Scriptures placed in your Bible. If you say it’s
too scary or too difficult then you are saying that God cannot speak plainly. In fact, the
book of Revelation is the one book of the Bible where the reader is promised to be
blessed by reading it.
Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this
prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at
hand.
Notice also that the same verse that promises a blessing also confirms that this
is a book of prophecy. This idea of future telling is reinforced by another verse in
Revelation as follows:
Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and
the things which shall be hereafter;
These are indeed perilous times we are living in. These are times that were
spoken of by Jesus in His Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24 and 25). These are also the
times that the prophets of old spoke about and these are the times that John wrote
about in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. If we know not what the signs of the times are,
then how can we be prepared for that glorious day when Jesus comes to claim His
bride?
