What was the cost of rebellion? The sacrifice of Christ is traced through the Bible from the Garden to the Cross.
There is consequence to rebellion. We teach our children that there are consequences to their actions, either for good or for evil. In order to train our children in the way they should go, as parents we must apply discipline in the proper manner so that they will grow to be responsible adults. Primary in our responsibilities as parents is to train our children in their proper relationship with their Creator. We find this requirement in Proverbs:
Prov 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
As children of our Creator we could hardly expect God to act differently. Sin took root in the heart of Satan, and Eve succumbed to the deception of the Serpent. Adam was not deceived, but took his part in the rebellion. Thus punishment was due as a consequence of the rebellion. God then pronounced judgment on the entire creation, and that creation was changed.
1 Tim 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
As loving parents, we punish, but provide a way back into fellowship for our children. Our children groan and travail in the throws of their judgment, but are joyous when restored to right standing within the family. God also is a loving parent who wants to restore His creation after dealing with the consequences of the rebellion.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
The Cosmic Battle as described in Genesis 3:15 is raging.
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
It is this battle that many fail to grasp as they go about their day by day activities. There was something very meaningful in the first blood sacrifice by God in clothing of Adam and Eve. It is this same blood sacrifice that we see portrayed throughout the Old Testament, which will culminate in the bloody sacrifice of God’s only Son on the wooden cross at Calvary. It is this sacrifice that we will see played out from Genesis to Revelation in this lesson. It is this blood that is central to our salvation.
